Haxtun couldn’t keep up with #2-seed Sedg-Co in the tournament opener and fell 11-1 Monday at Holyoke Baseball Field.
Sedg-Co got on the board in the bottom of the first when Lacey T. singled down the left-field line and the Bulldogs committed an error — two runs scored. They added two more in the bottom of the second after another Haxtun error and a Lacey single up the middle. Singles by Callie T. and Lacey, plus another error, extended the lead in the third.
Pitching: Callie T. earned the win for Sedg-Co — one hit, one run, four innings, nine strikeouts, four walks. Amber E. took the loss for Haxtun: 3.1 innings, 11 runs (six earned) on eight hits, eight strikeouts, five walks.
Haxtun offense: #23 launched the team’s only hit — a triple — and drove in the run. She went 1-for-1 with the lone RBI. The Bulldogs also turned a double play in the field and got on base via five hit-by-pitches (Kortlyn C., Kyla W., Waylyn H., Oakley M., Delaney P.).
Sedg-Co ran wild — 17 stolen bases as a team — and didn’t commit a single error.
