Haxtun Softball 12U could not keep pace with Sidney 12U, falling 8-5 on Tuesday at the Haxtun Baseball Field in the season opener.
Sidney got on the board in the top of the first after Payton C singled to the right side and Macey S tripled to center, each scoring two runs. Sidney added to their lead in the third when Payton tripled, scoring two, and Ashlynn P singled, scoring one.
Ashlynn earned the win for Sidney, surrendering one hit and two runs over two innings with four strikeouts and five walks. Kortlyn C took the loss for the Bulldogs, going four innings and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out 10 and walking seven.
Tyndle M set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Haxtun with two hits in three at-bats. Waylyn H, Kortlyn, Pyper J, Tyndle, and Oakley M each drove in a run. Delaney P led the team with three walks. Overall the Bulldogs showed a strong eye at the plate, tallying 13 walks for the game.
The Bulldogs travel to Holyoke for their next game on Thursday.
