Freezing during NFL games?
Here's what actually fixed it.

Six changes, about twenty minutes, nothing to buy. We went from freezing every quarter to a full game without a glitch.

First, what's really going on

If your SuperBox freezes, buffers, or goes black during football but every other channel plays fine, your internet is not the problem and neither is the box. Everyone with a SuperBox piles onto the same few feeds at the same hour, and those feeds choke. A VPN won't fix that. Changing DNS won't fix that. A faster internet plan won't fix that.

Two things matter most: getting your box off crowded Wi-Fi, and getting yourself off the crowded channel. The rest cleans up the box so it isn't adding problems of its own.

The fix

  1. Put the box on 5 GHz Wi-Fi, or run a cable

Most routers broadcast 2.4 and 5 GHz under one name and let the box choose. It usually chooses wrong. Split the bands in your router app so you get a separate "-5G" network, then connect the SuperBox to that one.

    Starlink: App → Settings → Wi-Fi → Split 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

An Ethernet cable from the router to the box beats either band. If you can run one, do.

  2. Clear the cache

Settings → Apps → Blue TV → Clear cache. Repeat for Blue VOD and Playback. Do not press "Clear data" — that logs you out and wipes your favorites. Then unplug the box for 30 seconds.

  3. Lock the video output

Settings → Display → Resolution → 1080p 60Hz, not Auto. Sports feeds run at 60 frames per second, and the box switching modes mid-game is what causes black screens, especially through an HDMI splitter.

  4. Update the box

Settings → Apps → System update. Then open TV Rom Updater from the home screen and let it run.

  5. Stop watching the obvious channel

The home-team local affiliate is where everyone goes, so that's the feed that falls over. Every affiliate is its own separate stream, and the ones with the fewest people on them hold up. Use the backup ladder in the next section.

  6. If it still freezes, check your speed right then

Open fast.com on the box while the picture is frozen. Above 25 Mbps means your internet is fine and it's the feed — flip to the next channel on the ladder. Below that, the problem is your connection.

How to watch on a backup feed

Set this up once before kickoff. On game day you flip, not scroll.

  1. Favorite the channels below

In Blue TV, go to each channel, press and hold OK (or press Menu) and choose Add to Favorites. Your favorites list becomes your game-day list.

  2. When a feed freezes, flip to the next one

Don't wait it out. Press Back to the favorites list and take the next channel down the ladder. Each one is a different stream from a different source.

  3. Try the alternate source link first if the channel has one

On some channels, pressing OK during playback shows source options (Link 1, Link 2…). Link 2 or 3 is often lightly loaded while Link 1 is overrun.

  4. Check the coverage map Thursday

506sports.com posts which cities get each game on CBS and FOX. Any small market on the map is a lightly used feed. Add it to favorites for that week.
